Genuine question: why does the NPFL have zero global reach compared to Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco?
We have talent. We produce world-class players every year. But our league feels invisible internationally. Wydad Casablanca and Al Ahly have followings that dwarf anything in Nigeria.
Part of it is structural — broadcast rights deals in North Africa were negotiated a decade earlier and built real international distribution. Part of it is simply that our best talent leaves earlier, before domestic fans or international broadcasters ever get attached to them playing locally.
Whatever the cause, the gap is getting harder to ignore every season the North African leagues sign another broadcast deal we don’t match.
Broadcast rights really is the whole story here.
