Burna Boy’s new album is the most structurally ambitious Afrobeats record yet — a track-by-track breakdown
Beyond the singles, the album makes some genuinely unusual choices in sequencing and genre-blending that reward a full listen more than most Afrobeats projects currently on the charts.
The back half in particular takes risks that could easily have failed — stretching songs well past typical radio length, leaning into arrangements that owe more to highlife than to anything built for a TikTok clip.
Whether it sells as well as the singles-driven approach is a separate question from whether it’s the more interesting record. I think it clearly is.
